Sales Navigator Core vs Advanced for a two- or three-person sales team

Sales Navigator Core vs Advanced for a two- or three-person sales team
Quick answer: Both plans give each user the same prospecting engine: Advanced Search filters, up to 10,000 saved leads and accounts, custom lists, alerts and 50 InMail credits a month. The difference is collaboration. Core is a single-user plan, so each person's lists stay theirs. Advanced is a multi-user plan that adds shared custom lists and saved searches, TeamLink, Buyer Intent signals, Smart Links, CSV upload of your book of business and detailed usage reporting. Two reps on separate territories can usually run on Core seats; a founder and SDR on one market, or a manager who needs to see activity, is the case for Advanced. Neither plan syncs with your CRM; LinkedIn keeps that for Advanced Plus.

What every seat gets on both plans

Start with what does not change, because it is most of what a small team uses day to day. LinkedIn's help centre lists these as the same on Core and Advanced, per user:

FeatureCoreAdvanced
Advanced Search filters for leads and accountsYesYes
Lead Profiles and Account PagesYesYes
Saved leads and accountsUp to 10,000 per userUp to 10,000 per user
Custom listsYesYes

InMail credits50 per user per month50 per user per month
Subscription typeSingle userMultiple user

The InMail rules are shared too. Sales Navigator credits arrive on the first day of each month in UTC, whatever your billing date, and unused credits accumulate up to 150 and must be used within 90 days. So an SDR on Advanced does not prospect with a bigger engine than an SDR on Core. The individual research experience is the same.

Two things are missing from both. Neither plan syncs with your CRM; LinkedIn keeps CRM sync for Advanced Plus, and says the move from Advanced to Advanced Plus goes through its sales team rather than online. And neither plan raises the invitation limit, which LinkedIn applies to every member whatever they pay (why a paid tier does not raise it).

What Advanced adds, and whether a small team will use it

Advanced is sold for teams. LinkedIn's plan page describes Core as for individual sellers and Advanced for sales teams, and every extra feature is about working together. The question for a team of two or three is which of them you would use every week.

Advanced featureWhat LinkedIn says it doesWhen a small team uses it
Shared custom lists and saved searchesLets teammates share custom lists and saved searchesTwo people work the same accounts and need to see who owns which lead
TeamLink and TeamLink ExtendShows when someone at your company is a 1st-degree connection of a lead; Extend adds colleagues who do not have a Sales Navigator licenceA founder, CTO or senior hire knows people your SDR could ask them to introduce
Buyer Intent signalsShows when buyers show interest in your companyYour brand already draws enough attention in your market for signals to appear
Smart LinksShares content in trackable links so you can see how prospects engageYou send decks or case material and want to know who opened them
Upload book of business (CSV)Uploads your book of business to improve recommendationsYou have a customer or target-account file to seed recommendations
Detailed usage reportingTracks team activityA manager needs to see seat activity without asking for screenshots

Be honest about the third column. Buyer Intent and Smart Links are only worth something if your team has the brand activity and the content to feed them; a three-person team selling a new product may see little from either. Shared lists and TeamLink solve problems a team of two has on day one: who owns this account, and who already knows this person.

Three small-team shapes, and the plan each one needs

Headcount is a weak guide. How the team divides the market is a better one.

  • Two reps, separate territories. One sells to the US and one to the UK, or one to fintech and one to healthcare. Their lists never overlap and neither needs the other's searches. Core on each seat covers it, and each person keeps a clean workspace of their own.
  • A founder and a first SDR on one market. The SDR prospects, the founder closes and holds most of the relationships. This is the strongest case for Advanced at small size: shared lists stop the two of you messaging the same person, and TeamLink shows the SDR when the founder is already connected to a lead, which turns a cold message into a request for an introduction. If you choose Core anyway, you need a written rule for who owns which account and a shared list outside LinkedIn to enforce it.
  • A manager and two SDRs. The manager is accountable for pipeline but does not prospect all day. Advanced gives shared saved searches, so both SDRs start from the same definition of the market, and usage reporting, so the manager can see activity. It also means the team's working lists are shared rather than sitting only inside one person's seat, which matters when someone leaves; read what happens when a seat moves before you plan around it.

If two of your three people would not use shared lists or TeamLink in a normal week, Core seats are the plan. If they would, the case for Advanced rests on avoided double-touches and warmer first messages, which you can check against your own numbers after a month.

Questions to settle before you choose

  1. Do two people ever work the same account? If yes, you need shared lists: either Advanced, or a disciplined process outside LinkedIn.
  2. Does anyone outside the sales team know the people you are selling to? TeamLink Extend puts their connections in front of your sellers without buying them a full seat.
  3. Who needs to see activity? If the answer is a manager, and the manager will not ask for weekly exports, usage reporting matters.
  4. Do you need Sales Navigator data in your CRM? Then neither Core nor Advanced does it. LinkedIn lists CRM sync only on Advanced Plus.
  5. When would you upgrade? LinkedIn lets you move from Core to Advanced online, but its Sales Navigator help page says InMail credits are not transferred when you change subscription type. Spend the current month's credits first.
  6. Is anyone planning to share a seat? Core is a single-user plan, and LinkedIn's User Agreement has members agree not to share or transfer their account. A second person needs a second seat.

What neither plan fixes

Both plans make a seat better at finding people. Neither makes the seat send more, write better or look more credible.

  • The invitation limit is the same on Core, on Advanced and on a free account.
  • InMail is finite on both: 50 credits per user per month, with a credit back only when the recipient responds within 90 days.
  • A thin or mismatched profile suppresses replies whatever the plan. That is profile work, not a subscription.
  • Lists decay. Saved leads change jobs and companies change shape, so someone has to own list hygiene on either plan.

If the real constraint is sending capacity rather than research, rented account vs Sales Navigator helps you tell which bottleneck you have.

Core and Advanced can both be bundled on a rented seat at one monthly price, quoted per engagement, and chosen seat by seat, so one seat can run Advanced while another runs Core or no tier at all; the details are on our LinkedIn Premium and Sales Navigator page. That figure is our price for the profile plus the subscription on it; it is not a discount on LinkedIn's pricing, and TechInRent is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, LinkedIn. Renting a LinkedIn account sits outside LinkedIn's User Agreement: section 8.2 lists renting or leasing access among its don'ts, and a rented seat can be restricted whatever plan it carries.

Key takeaways

  • Core and Advanced give each user the same research engine: Advanced Search, 10,000 saved leads and accounts, custom lists, alerts and 50 InMail credits a month.
  • Advanced is about collaboration: shared lists and saved searches, TeamLink, Buyer Intent, Smart Links, CSV upload and usage reporting.
  • Two reps on separate territories can usually run on Core seats. A founder and SDR on one market is the clearest small-team case for Advanced.
  • Neither plan syncs with a CRM (that is Advanced Plus) and neither raises the invitation limit.
  • Upgrade after spending the month's InMail credits: LinkedIn says they are not transferred when you change subscription type.

Frequently asked questions

Can two people share one Sales Navigator Core seat?

No. Core is a single-user subscription, and LinkedIn's User Agreement has members agree not to share or transfer their account. Two people need two seats: two Core seats, or Advanced seats if they need to share lists. What the licence says about sharing seats.

Does Sales Navigator Advanced include more InMail credits than Core?

No. LinkedIn lists 50 InMail credits per user per month on Core, Advanced and Advanced Plus alike. What Advanced adds is collaboration: shared lists and saved searches, TeamLink, Buyer Intent, Smart Links, CSV upload and usage reporting.

Can we start on Core and move to Advanced later?

Yes. LinkedIn's help centre describes an online upgrade from Core to Advanced. Its Sales Navigator InMail page says credits are not transferred when you change subscription type, so time the switch for after the current credits are used.

Does Sales Navigator Advanced sync with our CRM?

Not according to LinkedIn's plan comparison. CRM sync in both directions is listed only for Advanced Plus, and LinkedIn says moving from Advanced to Advanced Plus goes through its sales team.
